Courses
Your
academic program (i.e., general education requirements, major, minor and
electives) should help you prepare for law school. particular skills developed
through a variety of courses will contribute more to success in law school
than a major in any one discipline. These skills include: analytical and
critical thinking, clear and concise writing, speaking, research skills.
Courses in speech communication, English composition, linguistics, literature,
and logic will strengthen the functional skills needed for law school.
In addition, pre-law
students should strive for a broad understanding of social, political,
and economic institutions within a historical framework. This is important
background for problem-solving and organizing information to support a
point of view. Courses in economics, political science, sociology, and
business principles will contribute to this understanding.
